Ricardo has been on this journey since 2018 in memory of his loving grandmother, Sarah.
ZP is a Puerto Rican company founded in 2021, dedicated to the care and improvement of the quality of life of the loved ones we care for the most.
It all started about a decade ago. My grandmother began to display those little signs that most people notice from the elderly at a certain point in life. The repeated questions, the confusing conversations, the awkward moments. As many families do, we faced the reality of what was happening. My grandmother had been diagnosed with dementia. As many do, we took it upon ourselves to care for her at our home instead of placing her in a care facility.
At our home, she lived for about a decade. Throughout this time I dedicated myself to building puzzles for my grandmother.
One day, she could no longer build a conventional puzzle and I began to observe why she couldn’t do so. I began to learn about the different stages of neurological diseases, the differences between them, how they are diagnosed, and how to treat each one individually. Using my background as an engineer, I began to design puzzles with key observation features that helped me track her daily condition in relation to her disease. For many years I watched as the puzzle I designed for her became a therapeutic tool for not only my grandmother but also, an assessment tool for her caregiver. Every day she would sit multiple times to partake in this therapeutic activity and this would provide the caregiver with much-needed time. A time that otherwise would have been lost.
